I have been weighing all options when it came to this blog. I love what blogging has done for the thoughts in my head and the little pieces of my life I want to share. It has broadened my horizons to a whole bunch of encouraging ladies and inspiring stories. I have splashed these posts with the good, the bad, and the blessed and it has been an adventure.<br />
<br />
When it came down to it I realized that this blog, While I'm Waiting, incapsulated a time in my life that I want to remember. These pages have been open for six years. That is a good majority of time and memories. They hold a lot of growth, joy, hurt, and healing.<br />
<br />
But, I like fresh. I like clean, and I like the direction this new blog is headed.<br />

It came on the tail of an extremely busy week. Two showers bookending a half work week and our state's home educators convention. It was nine days of insane, low sleep, 16-17 hour days, lots of standing, planning, and bad-for-you food. Whew! I spent yesterday recovering from it all by cleaning! =) I am <i>that</i> person!<br />
<br />
With this summer stretching out in front of me I wanted to list out the things I wanted to accomplish. I want this to be the summer of completion. I don't want to waste these days I have been given. They are truly a gift.<br />
<br />
So, here goes:<br />
<ul>
<li>research and enroll (?) in classes for my midwifery/childbirth education instructor certification.</li>
<li>complete two jewelry projects.</li>
<li>make an appointment with apple for my computer (it is sick! =()</li>
<li>clean up the rest of the attic. I have fixed the back part and just need to sort of the front part and repack it.</li>
<li>wash my car.</li>
<li>plan a shower for a friend in Bible Study.</li>
<li>visit with my sister in DC for a long weekend.</li>
<li>maybe visit her some more!</li>
<li>complete the desk redo project with the desk sitting in my shed.</li>
<li>rearrange my room.</li>
<li>visit with my grandma and have her teach me to make coconut cake.</li>
<li>plan to take my nanny shopping.</li>
<li>help a friend pack and move across town.</li>
<li>plan out my days with the Boogs (I only have him Wednesdays)</li>
<li>plan Spanish lesson plans for the first semester (I'm teaching Spanish II!)</li>
<li>learn two songs on the guitar.</li>
<li>visit with some friends.</li>
<li>work on details for a big reveal <b><u>here</u></b> in the fall.</li>
<li>read two books.</li>
<li>memorize Isaiah 42:10-12</li>
<li>organize and clean the cabinet in the bathroom, 3 food cabinets in the kitchen, and the spice cabinet.</li>
<li>Go to some $1 movies</li>
<li>Attend kingsfest 2015 with my sisters and brother-in-law. </li>
<li>Attend our annual July 3rd picnic. </li>
<li>Attend our annual July 4th fireworks. </li>
<li>Meet my nephew. </li>
<li>Finish frames for antique English paper. </li>
<li>help plan my nephew's 4th race car birthday party!</li>
</ul>

And for a bonus (and only if I have time!)! </div>

Last Saturday we took an almost complete family outing to some yardsales. It was an odd thing for a good majority of us to be together to do that but it was fun and filled with blessings. I invaded on this glimpse of eternity touching earth when a man present at one of the sales took the time to hear the whispers of the Spirit and act on it. He, hand in hand with my sister and brother-in-law, prayed over the new life in my sister's womb and the family the Father was knitting. These precious moments can't be relived or retold like the actual event but what a sweet reminder of God's gifts in little ways.</div>

Here is an educational shout out for you. My dad taught me that you can in fact hold a bee and not worry about being stung. Not that I will seek to spend a minute longer with one than I have to to figure it out but there you have it anyway. If he is a carpenter bee with a white spot then he is, in fact, a he. Completely incapable of stinging and thus harmless...ish. </div>

I started the 3rd and it took up the better part of that short month. I confess I was hesitant to start and I addressed some of that <a href="http://psalm37seven.blogspot.com/2015/02/21-things-i-have-learned-during-21-day.html">here</a> so I won't go into it now.<br />

These things are awesome! You whip, and I mean really <i>whip</i>, 2 eggs and a banana together! Cook like pancakes over medium heat! Eat plain or with a sprinkle of cinnamon! So yum and a great boost of protein for the first meal of the day! </div>

1 large spaghetti squash</div>

3/4 cup Low Fat Ricotta Cheese</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
1 cup parmasean cheese (grated or shredded)</div>

1 cup tomato sauce (I use plain tomato sauce. No sugar or anything else added!)</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
2 cloves fresh garlic</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
3 teaspoons Italian seasoning</div>

Slice spaghetti squash in half and place cut side down in shallow pan. Add water to the pan about an inch thick. Cook in the microwave until the squash is tender and almost clear in appearance Mine took about 10 minutes broke up into 2 or 3 minute amounts. While the squash is cooking heat tomato sauce in a sauce pan over medium heat. Add garlic (minced), red pepper flakes, and Italian seasoning. I put amounts for the sake of a "recipe" but I tasted and added more of some and not of others. I like to know what my food is doing! =) When the squash is tender, take a fork and scraped the flesh to pull out the spaghettiesque pieces. Like my word!? Mix 4 cups of spaghetti squash with the sauce and pour into oiled baking dish. Top with ricotta cheese tablespoon at a time and sprinkle with parmesan. Bake at 415 degrees for 15 minutes or until cheese is browned on top! Makes four servings.</div>

I also wanted to give a peak into what the fix did for me. If I am straight up honest my relationship with food was one of comfort. I didn't have comfort foods, they were all a comfort. I think eating was somewhat of a thing that I used to distract, reward, ease, enjoy, etc. The fix really did help me to see what was missing from my diet and what I was missing in how I was eating! I am an organized nerd so seeing what components fit into my day was very helpful and keep them all straight was nice because it was easily laid out.</div>

When I was looking at my containers being checked off and pangs of hunger started I learned to reach for things that would benefit my body. On the flip side if the pangs of hunger were absent and I knew I didn't want to spend a container on bored eating I found something else to do. </div>

I lost a total of 12 pounds on the fix and I am thankful for that number. It wasn't what I was hoping and my clothes don't fit me worlds better than they did but 12 pounds is 12 pounds!<br />

I started out by completing a <a href="http://www.beachbody.com/product/fitness_programs/21-day-fix-simple-fitness-eating.do?e=433000">21 day Fix</a> and loved most of it! See my post here. All together I lost 12 pounds on that journey. It was hard but it helped in so many areas! </div>

My latest attempt is calorie counting. I have given a half hearted attempt these past two weeks but I have tried to kick it into high gear! I have deiced to give it a good 30 day shot like I did the fix and will probably give <a href="http://whole30.com/">Whole 30</a> a chance here soon. </div>

Here I am starting week 3 of #dadim and I am loving it this year! <span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">For the past three years I have participated in a world wide woman's fashion challenge where we were skirts or dresses every day for the month of May. It is a great month of getting back to the basics of femininity, clothing. There are so many other characteristics that define Godly femininity, but for this month I really work hard to achieve a girly, modest look that functional and nice looking. It isn't always easy. For example: we were selling a house last year. Between tearing out carpet and painting, "dresses" weren't on my agenda! =)</span></div>

Threw in a long necklace and I was super comfortable yet pulled together! I spilled dinner on my lap before I got a picture so I had to wait until it was cleaned! *embarrassed face!*</div>

This weekend we flew out to St. Louis to celebrate the marriage of my cousin. On my mom's side of the family there are eight cousins. This cousin is the youngest other than my sisters. She is about 8 months older than I am and even though we grew up 1,000 miles apart we spent a lot of time together. Thankfully our parents worked hard to make sure we had a relationship and I am thankful for her! </div>

I think I struggled with 25 being the number because I contemplated where I was and where I thought I would be. This past year I have left my church, ministry, house, and most all that was comfortable and same. It has been a year of change and newness. Sometimes newness hurts but that means that it is working. Growth is happening. God is growing me and I am confident of that. My quiet times have been sweet and challenging. I am thankful! </div>

She wrote and got some information and started on her way to actually completing a fix of her own.<br />
<br />
Now, I confess. I am SUPER skeptical about things. These pyramid, social networking, miracle companies don't lure me. I sell EO's but by name only. I believe in essential oils and their benefits and wanted to be a source for those I love to buy them. But you can ask my very frustrated upline, I am not into the selling and money-making side of things. Because why? Because this isn't what I am about. So, when it comes to anything else, I will listen and may purchase a product or two. But call it my stubbornness or whatever, I will not be sucked into the "this product will change my life" gig.<br />
<br />
So, when it came to this I was happy to let my mom go at it. Don't get me wrong. I like a challenge...partly because I am a competitive person! I wasn't against doing it, I just hadn't thought it through for myself. Come beginning of February, my mom asked if I wanted to join her. I decided to go ahead to form an opinion for myself. As much as I am against buying into this model of retail I am not above actually trying the product for myself so that I can make an educated decision.<br />
<br />
So, here I am at the end of the <a href="http://www.beachbody.com/product/fitness_programs/21-day-fix-simple-fitness-eating.do">21 Day Fix</a> and I can honestly say that the only negative I have found is the absence of Blue Bell ice cream in my life. So here are my 21 things that the 21 Day Fix has taught me. I was surprised. You may be too.<br />
<br />
<b>#1 - It's not hard</b>. Plain and simple. I hate, like with burning passion, counting calories, cutting foods, etc. I am ALWAYS hesitant when someone advises me to do so. Well, not today Zerg. It really is laid out so that you aren't limited to what you can or cannot have. But rather to how much and how often. It is dependent on simple math and organization. That's it.<br />
<br />
<b>#2 - I can eat</b>. This was a big deal to me. I have struggled with weight for a long time. I have struggled with stomach issues almost as long. Eating and I have never gotten along but apparently something in my body holds onto EVERYTHING I eat. It never ends. But I eat a lot. A LOT!<br />

<b>#3 - I eat until I am satisfied, not full.</b> This one is HUGE! I would eat until I felt full. On the fix my portions have been controlled and when I am finished I am satisfied, energized, and done. I am eating more often but the right things.<br />
<br />
<b>#4 - 6 small meals > 3 large meals.</b> To reiterate what I said in number three, I am eating more often. From the time I wake up my body is on about a 3 hour schedule. My body is accepting the food I need and digesting it better than before. My stomach isn't hurting because of overfeeding or starving.<br />
<br />
<b>#5 - I can digest food.</b> For the longest time I struggled to digest food. I have learned on this that I was eating too much, too fast, and waiting too long to eat. Don't read me wrong. There are STILL foods that I can't eat. I am not able to consume certain things with certain things. <b><u>Still</u></b>. <u>But this isn't a healing program</u>. I can digest meaning that when it enters my mouth and goes down my esophagus my digestion is working the way it is supposed to. I have only had three meals that my stomach revolted digestion. This, <b>THIS</b> is huge!<br />
<br />
<b>#6 - I do miss sweets</b>. But not like I used to. Sugar actually aggravates my stomach but I do like an occasional treat. Pathetic. 21 days are no big deal but I do look forward to the fact that my birthday is 2 days after I end it!<br />

<b>#7 - I like salad</b>. Ok, I said it! I do! Salad has been my rival forever! I have eaten several these last days and I have enjoyed them!<br />

<b>#8 - I am not limited.</b> My options are endless. It has brought out creativity in my preparation of different meals. If I am not into 100% raw veggies today I throw some in a pan and stir fry them a little! Roasting is awesome too!<br />
<br />
<b>#9 - I need a higher caloric intake than I thought to loose weight.</b> Every time I tried to loose weight I would slash my eating a third and eat like a bird. Unbelievably, I am eating like crazy and loosing pounds. BECAUSE, I am eating the right things. Have I said this enough?<br />
<br />
<b>#10 - Fiber is glorious.</b> That is all I am going to say about that. Moving on...!<br />
<br />
<b>#11 - Shakeology.</b> This is NOT a plug for shakeology. I have stayed away from protein powders completely because of my stomach issues. I have been warned over and over again from others who have suffered with the same issues as I that I shouldn't consume it. However, I wanted to give this thing a good go. I tried the shakes the first day and...<u>NO ISSUES!</u> I was <b><i>shocked</i></b>. Completely. I tried a few more recipes with it and haven't had one that I don't like. If I put milk in it I still use goat's milk but usually I love cherries, or strawberries.<br />
<br />
<b>#12 - I needed more protein.</b> I was a veggies and carb girl until a few days ago. Heavy on the bread and little protein to speak of. Not loading up on the steak but a definite increase of protein has helped immensely!<br />

<b>#13 - The work outs are no joke.</b> I had tried my hand at some of the workouts before beginning the program. To my surprise 30 minutes and I was worn! Yikes!</div>

<b>#14 - I am finishing strong</b>. I chickened out BIG time when I was on whole 30. Ug, it was terrible! This time I am crossing the finish line and not so eager to be "done."<br />

<b>#15 - It isn't a confidence booster and it is.</b> I am feeling stronger about what I can and cannot do. My planks are held longer. I have more restraint over my eating. I can finish a workout for the most part. BUT, I do <b><u>not</u></b> have a great amount of confidence. My body doesn't reflect the number loss from the scale. I tried on dress after dress yesterday and didn't like my body one bit. I hate to say it but it's true. I'd like to see it more than I did but I don't right now.<br />
<br />
<b>#16 - success is in numbers.</b> I'm not talking about the number on the scale. I'm talking about the camaraderie with others. Being on the journey with other people. My mom and sister and I all did it together. When we struggled, we could relate. When we succeeded, we celebrated. Plus we were a part of a Facebook group that had several members all sharing together.<br />
<br />
<b>#17 - I can do without bread.</b> Taking vitamins is still hard. They are SO potent. But I am not munching and snacking on it every other second like I was.<br />
<br />
<b>#18 - I am capable of seeing results.</b> I honestly just thought that I was past the point of seeing results. That there was something I wasn't taking care of and just wouldn't see results. Not true.<br />
<br />
<b>#19 - I'm never going to be a size 2.</b> I don't want to be. I like my curves...I just want them to shake less.<br />
<br />
<b>#20 - I still don't "love to workout" - </b>It's true. I am not jumping up and down when I peel myself out of bed at 5:30 to get in my cardio and a shower before work. It will never be a favorite. 21 days didn't change that about me.<br />

<b>#21 - It didn't "give me that body I always wanted" </b>- Repetitively Autumn says in the workout that if we give her 21 days she will give us the body we always wanted. Um, no. She lies. I can tell this will be a work in progress. My left hip looks severely under worked compared to my right...I don't know what happened. My belly still rolls. My legs are still awful. I don't have the body I "always" wanted. To be ENTIRELY honest I don't know that I will ever have it. For now, I am satisfied in trying to be healthy and work hard for whatever I get.<br />

#1 - <b>I don't just miss my husband today.</b> I miss him all the other 364 days of the year. It doesn't take this magical day in February to bring that about. I know the Father is shaping a future for me that I will be astounded at. But today, today is not the day for me to long for it. I am always in a state of longing. It doesn't get easier September 12th, June 9th, and April 3rd.<br />
<br />
#2 - <b>My parents raised me this way</b>. As plain and simple as it sounds I wasn't raised with Valentines being something that only mommy and daddy got to enjoy. It was always a family thing. A day of love. Simple as that. A time where we can learn more about it, display the characteristics, and maybe enjoy a treat or two stranger to the remaining weeks of the year. This year we spent the morning rock climbing and this evening my sister and her hubby are over for a yummy dinner of foods we don't normally get to eat. Fun day, for all.<br />
<br />
#3 -<b> I like love</b>. I am not always good at it, and my say-it-like-it-is personality sometimes doesn't show it but I like to love others. I like to find how they like to be loved and love them. Loving others is like, fun!<br />
<br />
#4 - <b>God loves me</b>. No, I won't be snuggling on the couch watching netflix with my boo. Or catching a late reservation and a night out. I won't get flowers and candy or even a kiss on the cheek and verbal "I love you's" (from the male variety). But, I know that the love my Father has for me is immense. Beyond compare and matching. He has blessed me with so much love through my family, my job; if I take a look around there isn't denying it.<br />
<br />
So no. Valentines doesn't bother me. I love it and love to celebrate it!<br />

In some ways it is a good thing. Example: it means I have been out "doing" instead of just planning and posting. Good. In other ways it means bad things. Example: I haven't been as disciplined the last two months to get the goals I had planned, done. Instead I have just rolled over like cell phone minutes.<br />

Ugh. This is teaching my perfectionist nature a thing or two.<br />

Onto this month!<br />

#5 - I need to deposit my first amount of money for completing some things on my list! I don't think I'll do this every time but instead tally it up after a block of time.<br />
<br />
#7 - I need to come up with a post to compile the things that have gotten done. I need to see progress. This is a way I can do that!<br />
<br />
#8 - Zephaniah 3:14-20 is my goal for this month. Verse 17 has always been of large importance to me and the parts around it needed to be added to my memory.<br />
<br />
#9 - I have started <u>Feminine Appeal</u> by Carolyn Mahany with my mom, sister, and a friend from church. I plan to start another now that I found my box of books! =)<br />

#13 - Done!<br />

#31 - I have actually achieved this goal for this month and I couldn't be prouder of myself. So many times I would start strong and then fall from determination. I know it has only been three weeks but I have stuck to it. Longer than I have in the past!<br />
<br />
#32 - I am doing the 21 day fix workouts. I plan to actually try the meal plan and shakes along with the workouts. For now I am using it as my challenge this month. I have gone through the workouts one and a half complete rotations.<br />
<br />
I think this is all I am going to be able to put together for this month. Next month I may try to add a project or two but for now I am enjoying scratching things off the list!<br />

And just like that it is the second day of January. I'd like to think that I am packing away the memories of 2014 with fondness but I'll be pretty blunt and honest. It took a great deal of hard looking at the truth to remember the good in this year. In comparison to 2013 you may ask what I have to complain about. And you would be right. However, in many ways 2014 was, at times, harder.<br />
<br />
Even in light of what I just said, 2014 also held a great deal of growth. Just like all growth it was accompanied with pain, but it in the end it made a beautiful chapter in the story.<br />
<br />
I am not determined to make 2015 a year of anything. I know that leads to disheartened discontentment and failure. I am determined to do one thing. That is, give this year. All 12 months, 52 weeks, 365 days to the one that made it. Wake every day knowing <i>and</i> proclaiming that <b>this</b> is the day the Lord has made. Waking with rejoicing on my lips and being glad in it. I don't know what it will hold and I am ok with that because I know <b><i>who</i></b> holds it.<br />

In some ways I feel like I failed but then again, that is the point of this. Learning and growing. I have plans to do better this month but I can't guarantee anything. <br />

November didn't produce the results I was hoping. I did get 18 days into the thankful photo challenge, and exercised but not a 30 day challenge. I can't mark off anything but you know what? I'll get it next time. Now I'm sounding like a pep rally...<br />

A fall tradition in our family is apple picking. Meaning Thanksgiving better not arrive before a large bushel of apples is sitting in our kitchen floor and our legs are sore from climbing all over a mountain for that "perfect" apple. This past weekend we decided to ramp up our tradition and made it a two day quest! </div>

Sunday my parents, sisters, and I headed north to hang with my sister and brother-in-law and nephews and we all went apple picking for a second time! It was FREEZING but fun! I am supposed to be in the "tiger blood" stage with boundless energy and overwhelming satisfaction with the program. Um, no. Not happening. My pants don't fit looser. I know, I know, there won't be a one-size-fits-all result for the program but I am not seeing drastic yet.</div>

Sorry for the lack of pictures. I am quite serious about what I had to say in my mid-week update. This was getting old and it resulted in my enthusiasm to take pictures or get creative!<br />
<br />
<b>Most missed</b>: pasta and rice!!! I didn't realized just how much I consume and just how much I missed it. <br />
<br />
<b>Symptoms</b>: over all tiredness. I reached the exhausted stage and stayed there. I am fairly confident it still has to do with being away for a month and hitting the ground running when I got home. No "recovery time" at all. I haven't been able to get a decent amount of sleep at any given point to make up for the sleeplessness while I was away. But as far as the whole 30 symptoms I haven't really had any headaches or withdrawals, I am not grumpy, etc.<br />
<br />
<b>Best thing I ate</b>: I loved the banana whip! It has been such a nice "treat" occasionally! I made this years ago and posted here on the blog. But I altered it and added some additional fruit for #whole30 approval and variety. I will post what I do soon!<br />
<br />
One of the rules of Whole 30 is that you aren't allowed to weigh yourself or take measurements. I didn't listen. =) I forgot to do so when I started but I did 2 days ago. Maybe one day I will feel like posting them but for now, know that I am watching my measurements.<br />
