five on friday

[one]

It's nephew number 4 for me! Super pumped! My sister and her hubby are busy getting all the details in place for their baby coming in August! Both of them are so cute as they learn about high chairs, carseats, and burp rags!

[two]

This week I chopped about 9 inches of my hair. I am still in shock but loving working with it! Hairstyles for mid length hair? Pass them along!

[three]

Last Saturday I went hiking with my Bible Study group. We went to some falls about an hour and half from here. They are supposed to be the biggest falls this side of the Mississippi River. It was a beautiful day and a great time of fellowship!

[four]

I went to the dentist for the first time in ages. I hate to confess it but it is what it is. =\ Thankfully I inherited my dad's teeth genetics and got off with two potential cavities in my back two morals and the compliment that my teeth were the stuff of the red carpet. Nice!

[five]

My family went to see Beyond the Mask film last night by the Burns Family Studios. I would highly recommend it! There are a few historical discrepancies but nothing that defies history like some movies, ahem, Pocohantas, ahem. =)

five on Friday: the odd week

[one]

My sister has been in town and I have been off all week. It's odd because it never works out that way but it has been super nice to be able to relax and visit with her and the boys without having to worry about schedules and dividing my time! Oh how I long to work for myself but until then I will take a week off to spend with the people I love, my family!

[two]

I mentioned last week that my nephew's 6th birthday was this weekend but his star wars party was last weekend! The decorations were completed and I think the 6 (almost) year old jedi had a great time!

[three]

I am currently obsessed with these! If you need a quick snack, this is it! So good, so sweet, so crunchy!

[four]

I made an awesome batch of pesto this week! Oh my goodness! So good!

[five]

My sister and I along with two of her friends attended an All Sons and Daughters concert last week that was awesome! If they are coming to your area, go. Just go! Great night of worship and surrender to the Father.

Here are the tour dates.

Meet Me in St. Louis!

This weekend we flew out to St. Louis to celebrate the marriage of my cousin. On my mom's side of the family there are eight cousins. This cousin is the youngest other than my sisters. She is about 8 months older than I am and even though we grew up 1,000 miles apart we spent a lot of time together. Thankfully our parents worked hard to make sure we had a relationship and I am thankful for her!

I can honestly not think of someone more giving and genuine. Nothing could keep her from giving you her right arm if she thought you needed it! Her day was totally her and she was such a beautiful bride!
She asked me to come over the morning of her wedding to help her get ready! That was so much fun to watch the process and I was blessed she chose to include me in her big day that way.

Her daddy's first look!

She asked me to ride with her and her parents to the church! It was a special time of just the four of us. She was a ball of nerves and excitement! We spent the 20 minutes on the way to the church remembering sweet memories and praying for her day ahead.

Her bridesmaids praying over her before she walks down the aisle.

The moment before she became his.

The families praying over the bride and groom before they become Mr. and Mrs.

My family all dressed up!

My mom and her brothers and mom. Lately we have had more and more times of being together with all of her family! These goof balls make family get togethers so much more interesting!

My mom and her brothers and their spouses and nanny!

The beautiful sunset provided a gorgeous back drop for the reception!

We wrapped up the weekend with some family time and frozen custard!

My sister and uncle the bottle and born gingers!

The flight home.

It was an awesome weekend filled with celebration and fun! I am so excited for my dear cousin and her hubby! Can't wait to see how God uses them!

5 on Friday

[one]

12.

That's the number. I have currently lost a total of 12 pounds in the last month and a half. I confess I thought 12 pounds lighter would look a mess of a whole lot different but that is a post for another day. For now I am proud of myself but want to keep working. That means I am 1/5 of my way to my goal so that is awesome.

 [two]

I am currently constructing all things star wars for my nephews 6th birthday. Before this month I didn't know what a millennium falcon was. Now I made one!

...and a death star, and three x-wing fighters, and a personalized opening crawl. Boom.

[three]

I feel like I am back to back celebrations right now...which isn't a bad thing.

Cousin's wedding last week (post tomorrow)
Nephew's 6th birthday this week
Nieces's baby shower next week

When April gets here I may feel bored!

[four]

I know I am going to get a lot of flack for this but everyone was all like, "bring on the spring" and I am over here not having it! I do love snow and would love some back but this waffling back and forth between winter coats and flip flops has go to stop. To each their own I supposed but is this really what everyone was wishing for?! Come on people! At least there was NO confusing when big white flakes were falling from the sky. It was for sure winter. But this, this is a confusing, nose running, wardrobe exploding mess.

Rant over.

[five]

Can we just stop for a minute and soak in that I have a 6 year old nephew. SIX! A more detailed post will come on his actual day but as I have prepared all his party stuff I can't help but get a little crazy over the fact that he is going to be six. Sigh.

My 25th Birthday!

February 24th was my 25th birthday. It was pretty low key and a surprise element, I didn't have to work! Sweet!

I think I struggled with 25 being the number because  I contemplated where  I was and where I thought I would be. This past year I have left my church, ministry, house, and most all that was comfortable and same. It has been a year of change and newness. Sometimes newness hurts but that means that it is working. Growth is happening. God is growing me and I am confident of that. My quiet times have been sweet and challenging. I am thankful!

So onto the birthday! Because we had just completed the 21 day fix I took the opportunity to celebrate my birthday with some cinnamon rolls! My mom makes the best and she delivered! So. Yum!

My aunt sent me a text with this picture! Totally her! She is so thoughtful! A quarter, for 25, and from 1990, my birth year! So fun!

For dinner I chose my favorite local BBQ place! I didn't choose a fix approved meal but I enjoyed it and jumped right back in the next day!

My family at dinner!

For dessert I chose Blue Bell ice cream. If you haven't had any...you are missing out. End of story!
We threw in some Bryers ONLY because it was tiramisu!

It was a great day of celebration and fun! I am so blessed for a wonderful family to walk through this past year with me and begin this new one coming up! God is good.

21 Things I Have Learned During the 21 Day Fix

Several months ago my mom became interested in a program a few friends were using called the 21 Day Fix. She wrote and got some information and started on her way to actually completing a fix of her own.

Now, I confess. I am SUPER skeptical about things. These pyramid, social networking, miracle companies don't lure me. I sell EO's but by name only. I believe in essential oils and their benefits and wanted to be a source for those I love to buy them. But you can ask my very frustrated upline, I am not into the selling and money-making side of things. Because why? Because this isn't what I am about. So, when it comes to anything else, I will listen and may purchase a product or two. But call it my stubbornness or whatever, I will not be sucked into the "this product will change my life" gig.

So, when it came to this I was happy to let my mom go at it. Don't get me wrong. I like a challenge...partly because I am a competitive person! I wasn't against doing it, I just hadn't thought it through for myself. Come beginning of February, my mom asked if I wanted to join her. I decided to go ahead to form an opinion for myself. As much as I am against buying into this model of retail I am not above actually trying the product for myself so that I can make an educated decision.

So, here I am at the end of the 21 Day Fix and I can honestly say that the only negative I have found is the absence of Blue Bell ice cream in my life. So here are my 21 things that the 21 Day Fix has taught me. I was surprised. You may be too.

#1 - It's not hard. Plain and simple. I hate, like with burning passion, counting calories, cutting foods, etc. I am ALWAYS hesitant when someone advises me to do so. Well, not today Zerg. It really is laid out so that you aren't limited to what you can or cannot have. But rather to how much and how often. It is dependent on simple math and organization. That's it.

#2 - I can eat. This was a big deal to me. I have struggled with weight for a long time. I have struggled with stomach issues almost as long. Eating and I have never gotten along but apparently something in my body holds onto EVERYTHING I eat. It never ends. But I eat a lot. A LOT!

source
#3 - I eat until I am satisfied, not full. This one is HUGE! I would eat until I felt full. On the fix my portions have been controlled and when I am finished I am satisfied, energized, and done. I am eating more often but the right things.

#4 - 6 small meals > 3 large meals. To reiterate what I said in number three, I am eating more often. From the time I wake up my body is on about a 3 hour schedule. My body is accepting the food I need and digesting it better than before. My stomach isn't hurting because of overfeeding or starving.

#5 - I can digest food. For the longest time I struggled to digest food. I have learned on this that I was eating too much, too fast, and waiting too long to eat. Don't read me wrong. There are STILL foods that I can't eat. I am not able to consume certain things with certain things. Still. But this isn't a healing program. I can digest meaning that when it enters my mouth and goes down my esophagus my digestion is working the way it is supposed to. I have only had three meals that my stomach revolted digestion. This, THIS is huge!

#6 - I do miss sweets. But not like I used to. Sugar actually aggravates my stomach but I do like an occasional treat. Pathetic. 21 days are no big deal but I do look forward to the fact that my birthday is 2 days after I end it!

source

#7 - I like salad. Ok, I said it! I do! Salad has been my rival forever! I have eaten several these last days and I have enjoyed them!

#8 - I am not limited. My options are endless. It has brought out creativity in my preparation of different meals. If I am not into 100% raw veggies today I throw some in a pan and stir fry them a little! Roasting is awesome too!

#9 - I need a higher caloric intake than I thought to loose weight. Every time I tried to loose weight I would slash my eating a third and eat like a bird. Unbelievably, I am eating like crazy and loosing pounds. BECAUSE, I am eating the right things. Have I said this enough?

#10 - Fiber is glorious. That is all I am going to say about that. Moving on...!

#11 - Shakeology. This is NOT a plug for shakeology. I have stayed away from protein powders completely because of my stomach issues. I have been warned over and over again from others who have suffered with the same issues as I that I shouldn't consume it. However, I wanted to give this thing a good go. I tried the shakes the first day and...NO ISSUES! I was shocked. Completely. I tried a few more recipes with it and haven't had one that I don't like. If I put milk in it I still use goat's milk but usually I love cherries, or strawberries.

#12 - I needed more protein. I was a veggies and carb girl until a few days ago. Heavy on the bread and little protein to speak of. Not loading up on the steak but a definite increase of protein has helped immensely!

#13 - The work outs are no joke. I had tried my hand at some of the workouts before beginning the program. To my surprise 30 minutes and I was worn! Yikes!

#14 - I am finishing strong. I chickened out BIG time when I was on whole 30. Ug, it was terrible! This time I am crossing the finish line and not so eager to be "done."

#15 - It isn't a confidence booster and it is. I am feeling stronger about what I can and cannot do. My planks are held longer. I have more restraint over my eating. I can finish a workout for the most part. BUT, I do not have a great amount of confidence. My body doesn't reflect the number loss from the scale. I tried on dress after dress yesterday and didn't like my body one bit. I hate to say it but it's true. I'd like to see it more than I did but I don't right now.

#16 - success is in numbers. I'm not talking about the number on the scale. I'm talking about the camaraderie with others. Being on the journey with other people. My mom and sister and I all did it together. When we struggled, we could relate. When we succeeded, we celebrated. Plus we were a part of a Facebook group that had several members all sharing together.

#17 - I can do without bread. Taking vitamins is still hard. They are SO potent. But I am not munching and snacking on it every other second like I was.

#18 - I am capable of seeing results. I honestly just thought that I was past the point of seeing results. That there was something I wasn't taking care of and just wouldn't see results. Not true.

#19 - I'm never going to be a size 2. I don't want to be. I like my curves...I just want them to shake less.

#20 - I still don't "love to workout" - It's true. I am not jumping up and down when I peel myself out of bed at 5:30 to get in my cardio and a shower before work. It will never be a favorite. 21 days didn't change that about me.

#21 - It didn't "give me that body I always wanted" - Repetitively Autumn says in the workout that if we give her 21 days she will give us the body we always wanted. Um, no. She lies. I can tell this will be a work in progress. My left hip looks severely under worked compared to my right...I don't know what happened. My belly still rolls. My legs are still awful. I don't have the body I "always" wanted. To be ENTIRELY honest I don't know that I will ever have it. For now, I am satisfied in trying to be healthy and work hard for whatever I get.

Final thoughts: I would recommend the Fix for anyone desiring to set up an understandable program that forms good habits. Don't look to it for the fix all. It won't. But it is helpful for those simple steps to a healthy lifestyle.

I plan to continue with the containers and learning how to enjoy my birthday tomorrow without undoing all my hard work. I hesitated to post this but I am down 10 lbs from 3 weeks ago.  I am proud of that.

Until next time...

Why Valentines Day doesn't bother me

So many people refer to this day as singles awareness day. It is a complete 24 hours not different from the rest where happily coupled people look down on those with out a SO (significant other: in single speech) or grumpy single people spend the entire day thinking of ways to cope. It doesn't have to be this way. But it is.

The sweetest blog post was written by a friend the other day. You can read it here. I appreciate her sensitivity to the potential this day could be harder than most. But her words aren't just true today. Read on and  I will tell you why.

#1 - I don't just miss my husband today. I miss him all the other 364 days of the year. It doesn't take this magical day in February to bring that about. I know the Father is shaping a future for me that I will be astounded at. But today, today is not the day for me to long for it. I am always in a state of longing. It doesn't get easier September 12th, June 9th, and April 3rd.

#2 - My parents raised me this way. As plain and simple as it sounds I wasn't raised with Valentines being something that only mommy and daddy got to enjoy. It was always a family thing. A day of love. Simple as that. A time where we can learn more about it, display the characteristics, and maybe enjoy a treat or two stranger to the remaining weeks of the year. This year we spent the morning rock climbing and this evening my sister and her hubby are over for a yummy dinner of foods we don't normally get to eat. Fun day, for all.

#3 - I like love. I am not always good at it, and my say-it-like-it-is personality sometimes doesn't show it but I like to love others. I like to find how they like to be loved and love them. Loving others is like, fun!

#4 - God loves me. No, I won't be snuggling on the couch watching netflix with my boo. Or catching a late reservation and a night out. I won't get flowers and candy or even a kiss on the cheek and verbal "I love you's" (from the male variety). But, I know that the love my Father has for me is immense. Beyond compare and matching. He has blessed me with so much love through my family, my job; if I take a look around there isn't denying it.

So no. Valentines doesn't bother me. I love it and love to celebrate it!

Happy Valentines!

101 in 1001: January

Here we are almost ten days until the end of the month and I am just now getting around to posting about this month's goals. In some ways it is a good thing. Example: it means I have been out "doing" instead of just planning and posting. Good. In other ways it means bad things. Example: I haven't been as disciplined the last two months to get the goals I had planned, done. Instead I have just rolled over like cell phone minutes.

Ugh. This is teaching my perfectionist nature a thing or two.

Onto this month!

#5 - I need to deposit my first amount of money for completing some things on my list! I don't think I'll do this every time but instead tally it up after a block of time.

#7 - I need to come up with a post to compile the things that have gotten done. I need to see progress. This is a way  I can do that!

#8 - Zephaniah 3:14-20 is my goal for this month. Verse 17 has always been of large importance to me and the parts around it needed to be added to my memory.

#9 - I have started Feminine Appeal by Carolyn Mahany with my mom, sister, and a friend from church. I plan to start another now that I found my box of books! =)

#13 - Done!

#31 - I have actually achieved this goal for this month and I couldn't be prouder of myself. So many times I would start strong and then fall from determination. I know it has only been three weeks but I have stuck to it. Longer than I have in the past!

#32 - I am doing the 21 day fix workouts. I plan to actually try the meal plan and shakes along with the workouts. For now I am using it as my challenge this month. I have gone through the workouts one and a half complete rotations.

I think this is all I am going to be able to put together for this month. Next month I may try to add a project or two but for now I am enjoying scratching things off the list!

Happy January!

5 on Friday

Happy Friday People! So thankful the weekend is here! I've been doing an experiment with my sleeping and I have come to some interesting conclusions! All that to say, I am thankful that Saturday is tomorrow.

So, first 5 on Friday for 2015. Excited to get into some rhythm. Even if it is for Fridays only for a while.

[one]
I made up a hairstyle the other day. It take my long locks and makes it a third of the length with this braid! It is super fun and I love it! Maybe I'll try a tutorial. Shh, you didn't hear that from me!

[two]
My weeks back with Boogs have been filled with "ptend birfdays" with playdoh and introducing him to jello! Goodness they were a match made in heaven!

[three] Sometimes I like to find pictures in the craziest places. I love how the trees reflected in a water droplet on my windshield the other day!

[four]
THIS ARTICLE folks! This says it so well. I never expected to think this through like this but this, THIS is it!

[five]
It wouldn't be a week without a new song discovery! This week's version courtesy Bethel Music. They recently came out with We Will Not Be Shaken that we recored late this past summer. This song has surfaced and it has been on a constant loop. They put into words what my heart feels so often. Just complete overwhelming surrender and peace being wrapped in His grace. Listen. You won't be disappointed.

Happy Weekend! Mine is to be filled with family and no responsibilities. Ah. What are you up to?

.linking up with.

1.02.2015

another year over

a new one has just begun.

And just like that it is the second day of January. I'd like to think that I am packing away the memories of 2014 with fondness but I'll be pretty blunt and honest. It took a great deal of hard looking at the truth to remember the good in this year. In comparison to 2013 you may ask what I have to complain about. And you would be right. However, in many ways 2014 was, at times, harder.

Even in light of what I just said, 2014 also held a great deal of growth. Just like all growth it was accompanied with pain, but it in the end it made a beautiful chapter in the story.

I am not determined to make 2015 a year of anything. I know that leads to disheartened discontentment and failure. I am determined to do one thing. That is, give this year. All 12 months, 52 weeks, 365 days to the one that made it. Wake every day knowing and proclaiming that this is the day the Lord has made. Waking with rejoicing on my lips and being glad in it. I don't know what it will hold and I am ok with that because I know who holds it.

Happy 2015! May the peace of our Lord and Savior be with you! Looking forward to what lies ahead!
